The Ark — is at the back of the bimah (stage) and is called, in Hebrew, the Aron Kodesh or Holy Ark. The Torah is kept in there.
The Eternal Flame — Above the ark, the ner tamid, or eternal light, keeps going, like the light that glowed in the Temple in Jerusalem in ancient times.
The Rabbi — officiates at the service. She is our spiritual leader and teacher. Ask her questions. Rabbis love questions!
The Cantor — sings and chants and helps us to make our prayers more beautiful. She especially likes it when you sing with her, even if you are not sure of the words or melody.
Siddur - contains prayers for daily, Sabbath, and holiday services. It is written in Hebrew and English, with transliterations, commentaries, and meditations. It is read from right to left, as is the Hebrew language.
Chumash - contains the Old Testament, or the Five Books of Moses (known as the Torah), as well as the English translation, each week’s accompanying portion from the Prophets (the Haftarah), and the Commentaries (interpretations of the readings). You can follow the Torah reading in English in the Chumash during the Torah service.
